Web Design
I have been designing and maintaining websites, mainly my own, for some time now. The site you see here is a pretty good representation of where my skills are. This page utilizes CSS and Javascript technologies to deliver a dynamic, easily updatable online presentation. I like clear, engaging sites that don't require high speed connections. By incorporating my own custom illustrations, I avoid the cold sterile feeling that plagues so many online destinations. I am currently developing my skills with Macromedia Flash.
Concert Promos
In the Spring of 2003, I created a multimedia advertising campaign to promote KLC Radio's yearly music event "Sunburn". I incorporated the chosen theme of "Robot Beach Party" by mixing cheesey 60's beach party imagery with 8-bit era robot images and fonts. The campaign was a great success, appearing on telephone poles, countertops, and windows all over Portland. Visibility was further enhanced by an interactive animation I created for the station's website. The centerpiece was a color ad run in the local entertainment weekly The Portland Mercury. I worked closely with staff at the paper, tailoring my image to meet their exact specifications for print.Cartoon Art
Since boyhood I have had a passion for drawing and doodling little characters. As I've grown older, I've developed a unique style that I cannot begin to objectively describe. The samples here are from a zine I recently put together collecting my doodles from the 1998 to 2003. I also like to write not-very-funny comic strips, which you can find on the appropriately titled comics page.Photography
A couple years ago I started tinkering with photography. After some encouraging remarks, I decided to pursue the idea further. The results can be found on my continually updated photo page. I try to imbue my photos with the particular sense of space that different events and locations possess. I also try to have fun. One out of two ain't bad, right?Music Production
I have been composing and producing music for well over half a decade (Woah!). In the beginning I used solely computer-based instruments. Today, I find myself more attracted to the physicality of organic musical instruments like guitar and keyboards. I try to combine these elements in a unique way, experimental but never losing sight of melody and song structure. I am fascinated by the recording and mixing process, the crazy stuff that happens in a studio. My skills in this area have developed over the years through constant tinkering and thought out feedback from family and friends, especially those in the Metempsychosis group. I hope to apply my skills to more collaborative projects and groups in the future. You can download my music for free on the front page.
